Friends of the Library Annual Meeting 2009:

Date : October 7, 2009 6:00-8:00pm,    Contact : Mary Murphy

Doc (Jeff) Fletcher, EMU class of 1976, will be the featured speaker at the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting on October 7, 2009 at 7pm in room 300 Bruce T. Halle Library on the EMU campus.

Doc will be discussing his books, Weekend Canoeing in Michigan: The Rivers, The Towns, The Taverns and Michigan Rivers Less Paddled: The Rivers, The Towns, The Taverns, as well as presenting a slideshow of his various adventures down the rivers of Michigan. For the casual canoeist looking for a fun 2-4 hour trip, these books have everything you need to get the most out of your day. Planning is often half the fun and Doc gives you all the information the canoe livery, an overview of the river, level of difficulty, what music you’ll need to get you in the proper frame of mind, the local radio station to tune in the Tigers games, how far it is from various Michigan towns and the tavern where you can grab a bite to eat and a beer after the trip. Books will be available for purchase and Doc will be happy to sign them for you.

Also, Doc will raffle off a "free canoe/kayak rental", donated by a Michigan livery, at the end of the evening's program. To keep a local flavor, Doc will try to get this gift certificate for a day trip on the Huron River from Skip's Canoe & Kayak in A2, but if Skip's doesn't come through, the free trip will be on either the Grand River or the Muskegon River.
